Description - Juniperberry is a slow-growing, coniferous shrub, with needled like leaves, small yellow flowers, and blue berries (which become black when ripe). The Juniperberry oil is distilled from the berries, needles, and wood. Juniper essential oil is clean in color and has a peppery scent. Juniper can be described as being crisp, earthy, sweet, and herbaceous, with a hidden fruity note. Juniper is one of the earliest essential oils used in ancient civilizations. In ancient civilizations through the 19th century, Juniper essential oil has been used for headaches, generally to combat epidemic breakouts ( such as typhoid or cholera). Juniper is still used as a purification incense in Tibet and in some North American indigenous cultures. Juniper is also used extensively in some food products, and to flavor some alcoholic drinks. Throughout history, it has been a popular ingredient in masculine, outdoor-type perfumes and after shaves.
